Intersectionality has been a key buzzword in the worlds of equality and diversity and identity politics for several years now. It can be defined as “the interconnected nature of social categorizations such as race, class, and gender as they apply to a given individual or group, regarded as creating overlapping and interdependent systems of discrimination or disadvantage” and was coined by Kimberlé Crenshaw.

Dan Robertson is an expert on unconscious bias and inclusive leadership and Director of Vercida Consulting. At the Global Equality and Diversity Conference and Awards, his plenary presentation discussed the importance of business understanding the concept of intersectionality and applying that understanding to their diversity and inclusion policy.
